| Brunswick Police Association |
The Brunswick Police Association (B.P.A.) is an incorporated association open to all members of the department. The group raises money for police and community projects. The annual fundraiser for the association is the well known Policeman's Ball. Chief J.E. Register initiated the ball in 1947 as a means of raising money for the School Boy Patrol. The association celebrated the 60th anniversary of the ball in 2007. Proceeds from the 2005 event benefited the U.S.O. |
The Police Association has also hosted various other fundraising events in the community. The revenue raised has been used for financial assistance to officers with medical bills and hardships, purchasing entertainment equipment for nursing homes, scholarships, flowers for personnel while in the hospital and for funerals, and an annual Christmas party for department personnel. Funds raised by the group also helped erect a police officer memorial on the lawn of the police headquarters for Brunswick Police officers slain in the line of duty. |
The B.P.A. also administers the Shana Hall Memorial Hardship Fund which serves to assist officers in times of severe personal crisis or hardship. This fund was been named in memory of longtime Brunswick Police Officer Sgt. Ed Hall's daughter, Shana, who passed away in early February of 2006. The B.P.A. occasionally holds events to raise funds for this account. |
