Acting Division Commander | |||
|
Sgt. Kevin Jones supervises the Special Services unit which is housed in the Albany Street Precinct. In addition to the many duties listed below, the officers in this division transport detainees from the Glynn County Detention Center to Municipal Court for appearances before Municipal Judge William Ligon; participate in community safety fairs and other public events; and address community and civic groups on various topics such as crime prevention and how to begin a Neighborhood Crimewatch program. Sgt. Jones also coordinates community affairs such as the Citizens' Police Academy, the Citizen Observer Program and other special community events. | |||

G.R.E.A.T., the Gang Resistance Education And Training program sponsored by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, is administered by Pfc. Anthony Maldonado and Ofc. Bryan Gamble to area middle school students. The G.R.E.A.T. program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid using delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. The goal: to prevent youth crime, violence, and gang involvement while developing a positive relationship among law enforcement, families, and our young people to create safer communities. Traffic Section | |||
|
This unit's primary responsibility is enforcement of city ordinances and state laws regarding parking enforcement and traffic offenses. The purpose of this unit is to reduce traffic accidents and injuries resulting from those accidents through preventative patrol and active enforcement techniques. The use of radar and the S.M.A.R.T. trailer are just a couple of methods used to enforce speed limits. These officers patrol school zones to enforce speed limits in order to protect the children of our community. Roadside safety checks are conducted for the purpose of detecting violations and educating the motoring public on the importance of voluntary compliance with traffic laws. This section also assists in traffic safety education and proper child seat installation education. All uniformed personnel in marked vehicles have traffic enforcement responsibilities whether actually assigned to traffic duties or not. The Traffic Section also has the assignment of investigating all major vehicle crashes and most minor ones, accidents involving hit pedestrians, and hit and run accidents. | |||

C.A.P.A.C. | |||

The Citizens And Police Against Crime unit is assigned to all communities of public housing inside the city limits of Brunswick. The C.A.P.A.C. team, through community involvement, identifies the various needs and problems of the residents of the public housing communities of the Brunswick Housing Authority. These officers work with the residents and the housing Authority to develop solutions for these problems. They make as much contact with residents as possible in order to create better relationships with the residents. They answer calls for service at housing authority communities and assist the Brunswick Housing Authority with other special programs. | |||

Canine Officers | |||
|
The chief purpose of the K-9 unit is all phases of drug interdiction and the apprehension of suspects through search techniques. These officers are also available to assist surrounding agencies. The canine officers work a regularly assigned shift in addition to being on-call. Acquisition of two of the department's canines were the result of donations from local businesses. Rob Dunagan of Rob Dunagan Insurance and Allstate Insurance sponsored Brett and the Brunswick campus of the Southeast Georgia Health System was the sponsor for Body. The department is grateful for these community partners and their interest in the safety and security of our community. | |||

Bicycle Patrol |

Duties performed by the bike patrol include patrolling the city on police bikes, on foot or in a patrol vehicle, conducting surveillance in areas of high crime or drug activity and making arrests of violators, and administering seminars at local schools, civic organizations and other groups promoting bicycle safety. |

S.P.E.A.R. |

|
The Seaport Patrol Enforcement And Rescue team uses marine craft such as a police boats and personal watercraft to patrol all waterways within the city jurisdiction, enforce marine laws and other ordinances, promote safe watercraft practices and help ensure the safety of the port of Brunswick. The SPEAR team is also utilized when stranded boater rescues, water searches or body recovery efforts are necessary. |
